If you are thinking of being an associate, thinking of bringing an associate in to your practice, or if you are currently an associate dentist this episode is for you. After one year of working as associates Big Joe, John Wesley, and Scotty break down everything they wish they had done BEFORE they signed their contracts.

In this episode Big Joe talks about why it is SO IMPORTANT to make sure you are getting paid based on adjusted production and NOT collections. We take a look at his contract he signed while we was still in dental school and go over some key things that he could have done differently to put him in a better spot today. Scotty compares his two associateships and tells us why he had to go through some hard times to get to where he is now (a South Georgia mansion). John Wesley shares insights on his transition from being an associate to co-owner of the same office, and now having an associate working for him and his business partner.

This episode is intense and is one that you HAVE to hear before you sign a contract.

Dentistry, by nature, has an intense focus on the science and clinical aspect, with good reason. As professionals, we have to take care of our patients and provide the highest level of care that's in our capabilities. But, if you remove the clinical side from the discussion, you are still left with a relationship that needs attention, and is arguably just as important: the doctor/assistant relationship.

As the saying goes: "if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life." And the environment that you work in is a huge contributing factor to the level of happiness and satisfaction that should come with employment.

On today's episode, we sat down with Anca Sexton RDA who is one of Big Joe's assistants. This interview really dives deep into what makes the doctor/assistant relationship tick. She shares some realistic struggles that no one wants to talk about and what each side can do to improve. This is a great look into dentistry, from the point of view of the dental assistant.

This was an awesome episode for us to record and packed full of knowledge if you're looking to learn the secret to successful career relationships within your office!
